Approach
My goal as a therapist is to create an environment of safety and care that will provide the space for healing. In true collaboration with your needs and goals, I will provide insight and guide you in the processing of emotions, in conjunction with aiding in learning and application of skills to improve self-efficacy.
With over 20 years of experience, I have been trained in and practiced the application of several different modalities, with the insight to implement techniques in a manner specific to the unique needs of each individual.
Psychotherapy is at the core of many therapy practices. Emotions are explored, underlying themes are identified, insights are brought to life, all improving one’s mental state. Emotions, such as shame, diminish and fall away when brought to light.
Cognitive behavioral therapy aids in the identification of core negative self-concepts and creates a tangible way for the individual to resolve these negative thought patterns through application of reframing skills.
When talk therapy and skills training have been applied and the individual feels that, although progress has been made, there is a plateau or a place of “stuckness”, art therapy and somatic therapies can help to move emotions trapped in the unconscious mind or body. Art therapy uses art as a vehicle to uncover trapped emotions by reducing resistance and bringing feelings to the surface in a manner that can then be verbally processed. Somatic therapies start with the body, bringing awareness to where emotions are held in the body and allowing for release.
“Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways” – Freud
